PRESS RELEASE

taz.international – the english portal of taz the daily newspaper

taz.die tageszeitung is only available in German. We want to change that!

In January 2017 the taz launched a platform with taz.gazete, which offers a space for critical Turkish journalism. Now taz.international presents an English language offering with selected texts. At www.taz.de/tazinternational, a small part of the journalistic work of taz editors and authors is already available for an international readership. The taz.international editorial team will start with one piece a week and the offer is to be expanded in the medium term.

In the coming weeks there will be additional contributions in English by journalists from Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain, exclusively written or filmed for taz.international. Focus: “How can we survive populism?” The taz thanks the European Academy Berlin e.V. for establishing the contact with our South European colleagues.

To start off, taz.international is publishing a video interview with multimedia artist Laurie Anderson. She talked to us about her understanding of art and the current situation in her home country, confronted with the influence of Trump’s administration and its attacks on reality.

“Right now the world is burning in so many places, it’s becoming more and more important to network internationally and go beyond our own German language area”, says taz.international coordinator Gaby Sohl. “taz.international is just a small spark in the international media world, but we are pleased that our taz paws are able to travel around the world to maybe find new comrades who would like to have a taz in their own countries as well.”

This project is supported by the Center for Translation Science at Vienna University and the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Leeds. Many thanks also go to the transmediale festival, which made the video interview with Laurie Anderson possible.
