What remains of Cologne?

About the mechanisms of racism in the German news coverage and its reception

Event_large

Cologne symbolizes a grandiose misinformation of the public. In the official report sex assault was not an issue, until facebook turned it into a problem. Then the Chief of police declared that the majority of the offenders were not „refugees“, but „North Africans“, supposedly it had been a case of organised crime.

The BKA backpaddled only four weeks later: The assumption that the offenders had predominantly been North Africans could not be confirmed, also the theory about gangs was discarded. The „Silversterdiskurs“ turns thus into a document of a deep rooted racism in Germany that is also being reproduced by parts of the white feminist scene.

This event will take place in English.
An event in cooperation with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung.
